The University of Kashmir (KU) has entered into a partnership with the Geological Survey of India (GSI) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), to enhance research related activities in Geosciences in the Jammu and Kashmir Himalayas. The research work will include the fields of Quaternary Geology, Glaciology, Hazard Zonation, etc.
The officials of both the institutes are engaged in working out the modalities of the partnership at present.
As per KU officials, the partnership will include use of various analytical amenities, faculty as well as student exchange, shared workshops as well as field campaigns and collaborative execution of national research-related ventures in the Himalayas. GSI is also aspiring for assistance from the Earth Sciences Department under KU to restore the regional GSI Center in south Kashmir.
GSI has been chosen as the nodal agency to conduct the International Geological Congress (IGC-2020), which is a major scientific conclave to be held in 2020.
